EEVblog #751 - How To Debunk A Product (The Batteriser)

EEVblog

Why people recommend it

Cited as an EEVblog reference on how battery voltage relates to remaining energy and the cutoff voltage at which devices stop working.

Watch for: reference for battery cutoff behaviour

In their words

Edit: In case you want to learn more about this effect, watch EEVBlog Dave's video about the Batteriser where he debunks that product (on the grounds that there isn't much to gain from such a device) but while doing that he shows how the way you're discharging a battery determines how much charge you can extract.

A lot of devices will run until each battery drops to 1v (See EEVBlog [video]), and a 5v phone charger can produce an output voltage from 4.75v to 5.25v, which should be more than enough to operate the toy.
